MASAI MARA RESERVE
The Wildebeest Migration in East Africa, also known as The Great
Migration takes place between Kenya's Masai Mara and Tanzania's
Serengeti National Park and is one of the greatest wildlife
spectacles on the planet. Thousands of wildebeest and zebra
migrate between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara, constantly
driven by their search for fresh grazing. These mega herds are
closely followed by large predators lion, hyena and cheetah,
easily visible in this rolling landscape. The Masai Mara Reserve
is inextricably linked with 80,000 acres of the select and
private Mara North Conservancy where both Serian & the more
intimate Ngare Serian are located.
F
or the
keen ornithologist there are four hundred and fifty three
recorded bird species in the Mara, fifty-three of which are
raptors, all vying for space in the clear blue skies. Conception
of the wide-open spaces and the traditional Masai culture are
eye-openers for first time travelers. The Masai Mara's location
and altitude, above 1,500 m, yield a comfortable climate that is
milder and more comfortable than in other regions.
WALKING SAFARIS
Here we aim to put some adventure into your safari, walking with
experienced guides we will take you into the heart of the
Africa. You will immediately notice the difference between a
vehicle tour and one conducted on foot. Senses that may have
been a little dulled in a car will strain to perceive
indications of the wild game that surrounds you. Your perception
of the bush will change until you feel an intimate relationship
with the environment through which you trek. Walking with Masai
Warriors you will be experiencing the bush in much the same way
that our pre-historic ancestors did. At night we camp under the
stars enjoying a wholesome meals in the company of roaring
Lions.
FILM & PHOTOGRAPHY
Explore! Hunt with Hadzabe join Serian's founder, filmmaker &
guide Alex Walker in company with friend, author & photographer
Mike Hacker, have set their sites on one of the most secluded
spaces in Tanzania. Known to very few people, consequently quiet
and secluded, Lake Eyasi is the object of their desire. Inspired
by its remote and rugged landscape, there is no better
destination for these two adventurers.
BALLOONING
An early morning departure from Serian will see you at the take
off point for the Mara Balloon. Suspended in a basket beneath
the balloons canopy, you float over the plains and above the
forest alongside the Mara river, checking out Hippos, Crocodile
and Elephant from high above. The flight time is generally in
the region of one hour and ends with a champagne breakfast in
the open grassland within the reserve.
