Off Beat Horse Safaris
Kenya is the birthplace of Safari (Swahili for a journey). Ever
since the railway cut through to the hinterland in 1900, famous
names such as Hemmingway, Finch Hatton, Roosevelt and many more
have come here to Safari and left spell bound having experienced
the wonders of this magical land.
Big game, untouched tribes and stunning landscapes combine to
produce what is often described as the holiday of a life time.
It takes years of experience to establish a safari company that
can genuinely claim to take people to true wilderness areas of
Africa whilst maintaining the high standards of the old
traditional safaris. After 20 years operating safaris in Kenya,
Offbeat Safaris can proudly say they have achieved this. We
continue to provide our clients with a safari experience based
on 4 founding principles:
* Charismatic guides
* A passion and respect for Africa’s wildlife
* High standards of comfort & service
* Small exclusive lodges with a maximum of 14 beds
Offbeat
Mara Camp
One of the smallest camps in the Mara, Offbeat Mara Camp has
just six tents and is located on the Olare Orok River in the
Mara North Conservancy. This small and exclusive tented camp
offers a truly private, traditional safari experience with close
access to the famous Masai Mara National Reserve.
The Mara North Conservancy, founded in January 2009, is an area
of about 74,000 acres and is incredibly rich in wildlife and has
one of the lowest densities of tourist visitors in the greater
Mara ecosystem, enabling guests to enjoy game viewing in
privacy. Offbeat Mara Camp is one of the founding members of the
Conservancy.
Tucked away in this prime wildlife area, Offbeat Mara Camp
provides guests with superb game viewing - lion, leopard,
elephant and buffalo are all seen regularly in the stunning
valley that surrounds the camp. Most importantly, the camp is
far away from other lodges and camps. We aim to provide guests
with great game viewing 'away from the masses'.
The
Masai Mara plays host to the annual migration from July to
October. An enormous concentration of wildebeest, zebra and
consequently predators pass through the surrounding plains.
Unrestricted by National Park rules, guests at Offbeat Mara can
enjoy full day game drives as well as evening drives
(pre-dinner) in custom-built Land Cruisers; bush breakfasts,
picnics and the famous Kenyan sundowner. Visits to the
wildebeest crossing points on the Mara River, Maasai village
visits, trips to the rhino sanctuary, scenic flights, and hot
air balloon safaris can all be enjoyed from Offbeat Mara Camp.
The camp sleeps just 12 guests in six traditional safari tents.
Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with hot bucket showers, wash
basins and flush loos. The spacious tents are all furnished with
large, handmade cedar beds, 24hour solar lighting and the finest
linen.
Informal dining is hosted in the mess tent or around the
campfire. Delicious English breakfast, light lunches and three
course dinners are served each evening. Guests can relax in the
bar and 'mess' tent, furnished with comfortable sofas, a writing
desk and library with wildlife guide books.
Offbeat Mara Camp works closely with the local Masai community.
Local Masai helped build the camp with Piers Winkworth, the
owner. Many of them are now working in the camp’s staff. All our
guides are local Masai and have first class knowledge of the
area,
