The Cottar Safari tradition
began in 1919. Just under a
century later we continue to
provide an
unparalleled safari
experience to discerning clients
in Africa.
Extending an era of
luxury and quality,
we return to
the original spirit and essence
of ‘safari’, reminiscent of a
golden era – an era of
romance,
professional guiding, adventure
and elegance. Situated in the
Masai Mara, bordering
the
Serengeti and Loliondo reserves
in an untouched exclusive
concession guaranteeing privacy
and
an abundance of wildlife.
The camp accommodates up to 22
guests in authentic white canvas
tents, which are spacious and
luxuriously furnished. They
incorporate original safari
antiques from
the `20`s, private
en suite dressing rooms,
bathrooms the main bedroom and a

As the name suggests, this camp
is available for the exclusive
use of individual groups. It is
their own “private camp”.
Governors` Private Camp has all
the assets of an individually
tailored mobile safari, with the
added bonus of the highly
specialised experience and
back-up of Governors` Camp. The
professional and
well-established infrastructure
that operates behind the scenes
makes it possible for us to
offer the full services and
facilities of Governors’ Camp to
Governors’ Private Camp
throughout the year. Our Executive Chef is
responsible for planning the
menus at Private Camp and for
ensuring that the food is of the
highest possible quality.
We have gone to great lengths to
maintain the traditional safari
atmosphere and the comforts that
have been incorporated do not in
any way detract from this
concept.
Governors` Private Camp can be
booked by individual clients, or
by small parties, who want the
exclusivity of a private safari
camp without the daunting costs
normally associated with this
degree of luxury. We cater for
up to 16 people, in beautifully
appointed and luxurious tents
which we have developed through
the years and now adapted,
without any compromise, for our
Governors` Private Camp.

Governors’ Il Moran is for those
who want that extra bit of
luxury. The camp comprises just
10 tents situated along the
banks of the Mara River.
Ilmoran is hidden in the shadow
of ancient trees. The camp
recreates the atmosphere of the
original hunting camps. Each
room is furnished to a superior
standard. The beds have been
hand carved from specially
selected wood from fallen,
ancient olive trees. The
interior of each tent also
includes a Victorian style bath,
flush toilet and double basins.
Each tent has a large, extended
verandah designed so you can
take dinner in private at your
tent if you wish.
You will be the personal guest
of manager, Patrick, who has a
wealth of experience of the
African bush. Game drives and
game walks are included in the
rate and complimentary wine is
served with dinner. During the
day, meals are served outdoors
amongst the trees. For breakfast
there are fresh fruits, cereals
and hot-baked breads together
with a full, cooked breakfast
prepared before your eyes. For
lunch, a buffet that will
satisfy the hungriest appetites.
In the evening guests can enjoy
cordon-bleu dinners by
candlelight, deep in the bush.
These are truly unforgettable
experiences. More
