Kilimanjaro

Mt. Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route
The Lemosho Route is un spoilt, remote,
little used and stunning way up to the Shira Plateau. It
can both be used to access the Western Breach route or
followed by the Kibo South route to climb by the easier
Barafu Route. The path is one of the few where groups
may be escorted by an armed ranger on the first day,
because the forests around the Lemosho Glades are full
of buffalos, elephants and other big game wildlife. |

Mt. Kilimanjaro Machame Route
Normally completed in a minimum of 6 days, the Machame
route is perhaps the most scenic route up Kilimanjaro.
The benefit to this is that it accords the hiker the
much needed acclimatization. All your equipment and
supplies are carried by porters with a cook preparing
all meals. Accommodation on the Machame route is
strictly in tents only. This makes this route better
suited to the more adventurous hiker and thereby
rewarding him with a scenic magnificence not seen on the
other routes. From the late afternoon sunsets at Shira,
to the misty revelations of Kibo at the great Barranco
Wall, the Machame route offers the adventurous hiker a
stunning scenic "slide show" over 6 days.

Mt. Kilimanjaro Marangu Route
Tenderly refered to as the "Coca-Cola
route", Marangu is by any standards the most
popular route to the top of Kilimanjaro. Mostly due to
the fact that the Marangu is the least expensive route
to use, but more so, possibly due to the fact that it is
achievable to do the Marangu route in 5 days. This may
not always the best way due to a shorter acclimatization
period. The Marangu route does however offer you the
option of spending an additional acclimatization day on
the mountain thereby increasing your chances of success.
Accommodation on the Marangu route is in huts hence the
main difference from the other routes. Mineral water,
soft drinks, chocolates and beers are also sold at all
the camps on this route thus offering you the relative
luxury. |

Mt. Kilimanjaro Rongai Route
The Rongai route ascends Mount
Kilimanjaro from the north-eastern part, along the
border with Tanzania and Kenya. This route offers a
sense of untamed wilderness and an unusual viewpoint on
Kilimanjaro by accessing it from the north. |

Mt. Kilimanjaro Umbwe Route
The Umbwe route is one of
the shortest routes to the Southern Glaciers and the
Western Breach. It is one of the most scenic and
non-technical route of ascending Mount Kilimanjaro. It
is somewhat challenging, mainly because of the
relatively rapid ascent to higher altitude, but the
expedition s rather rewarding. With a small number
people, pristine forest line and shorter trekking
distances make it a great choice for hikers who are fit.
An overnight in the crater adds a great experience. Be
among the few fortunate people to spend a night in
Africa's principal volcano. This option is highly
recommended, as this will give you the opportunity to
get close to the gorgeous and captivating glaciers of
Kilimanjaro and be able to stopover the ash pit. |
