About Borana
Borana
provides is a peaceful setting for any African Safari
experience. Borana offers a panoramic view of Mount Kenya
snow-topped peaks and glaciers to the south and desert to the
north.
Residence to the Dyer
family for three generations, Borana takes its name from the
native Boran cattle kept on these arid grasslands. The ranch
sits within a vast conservation area and the Dyer family is
dedicated to working alongside its neighbours to preserve the
natural environment and to promote economic and social
improvements in the area.
Come to Borana and
draw on the Dyer’s knowledge of this magical land to create the
ultimate safari experience. Or just relax in the luxury and
harmonious comfort of The Lodge or the discreet private
residence Laragai House.
Wildlife
During a good afternoon in Borana Ranch, you
might see 23 different kinds of wild animals. Around 300
elephants roam freely across the ranch plus a dozen matriarch
cows with radio collars in the Laikipia area so that we can
monitor their movements.
One matriarch took her extended family of
sixty for 92 miles in one week. This research is of great
importance to us in our search for a way in which they and we
can continue to live together in the future.
As cattle raising farmers, the Dyers
constantly seeking a way to live in harmony with Africa’s
predators and monitor the lions closely to protect the cattle,
camels, sheep and horses from their depredation.
The ranch still loses close to a hundred
heads of livestock each year to lions, leopards, cheetahs,
hyenas and jackals.
