Day 1 Nairobi – Masai Mara
Game Reserve |
0730hrs: Depart Nairobi for Masai Mara Game Reserve.
This remarkable day takes us to the land of the Masai, a
cattle-herding people still proudly aloof from western
civilization. Our destination, the Masai Mara, is a
magnificent park and home to Kenya's richest
concentration of wildlife. Arrive in time for lunch.
Take an afternoon game drive.
The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance
that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of
animals have been recorded here. You will easily see
lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffe, wildebeests,
zebras, buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs,
buffalo, leopard, many kinds of antelopes and elephant.
It is in the Mara that perhaps the most spectacular
event of the natural world takes place. This is the
annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra
from the Serengeti (Tanzania) in search of water and
pasture. Following on their heels are the predators of
the savannah- lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena and
vultures.

DAY 6: Ngorongoro Crater –
Serengeti National Park. |
After breakfast descent into the Crater with picnic
lunch boxes for a half day game drive.
The crater is said to have the highest concentration of
wildlife in Africa. As such, Ngorongoro Crater has
achieved world renown, and attracts a growing number of
visitors each year. Even if time is limited this natural
but accessibly small caldera ensures a rewarding
safari.
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact
caldera in an exceptional geographical position, forming
a spectacular bowl of about 265 sq km with sides up to
600m deep. It is the stalking ground of 20 - 30,000 wild
animals at any one time.
The crater floor consists of a number of ecological
environments that include grassland, swamps, forests and
Lake Makat, a central soda lake filled by the Munge
River. All these various habitats attract various
wildlife to drink, wallow, graze, hide or climb.
Although animals are free to move in and out of this
contained environment, the rich volcanic soil, lush
forests and spring source lakes on the crater floor tend
to incline both grazers and predators to remain
throughout the year.
Ngorongoro Crater is also presently one of the most
likely areas in Tanzania to see the endangered Black
Rhino, as a small population is thriving in this idyllic
and protected environment one of the only areas where
they continue to breed in the wild.
The Crater rim, over 2,200 meters high, touches swathes
of clouds for most days of the year, with cool high
altitude vapors that seem to bring a clean lightness to
the air, and also a chill.
In the afternoon, ascend Ngorongoro crater and depart
for Serengeti National park with Game drives en route.
Arriving Serengeti in the evening for dinner and
overnight at Seronera Campsite.

Day 7: Serengeti National
Park – Tarangire National Park. |
This morning we break camp and explore the grassland
plains of Serengeti National Park. We seek herds of
large animals including Giraffe, Buffalo, Wildebeests,
Zebra and Antelopes and with picnic lunch and the game
drive en-route, proceed to Tarangire National Park. On
the way stop and visit the Olduvai Gorge – an important
pre historic archeological site where the remains of
early humans dating back millions of years ago were
discovered.
Serengeti is justifiably famous for its huge
concentrations of wildlife, especially the big cats, as
well as being the stomping ground of the Great
Migration, a massive accumulation of 1.5 million
wildebeest, 200,000 zebras and 350,000 gazelles
stretching their legs over 1,200 miles in an annual race
to find enough water and green grass for their survival.
The National Park is broadly divided into three distinct
areas, the Seronera Valley and Seronera River, the
Western Corridor and the Northern Lobo area that extends
northwards through the Lamai Wedge to the Maasai Mara.
Most visitors enter the Serengeti through the southern
Naabi Hill Gate, which opens onto the Seronera Valley; a
vibrant wildlife area at the heart of the Serengeti.
In November the migrating herds are moving southwards
from northern Serengeti to the south of Serengeti where
breeding takes place before the cycle starts all over
again.
Arriving at Tarangire National Park in the evening. Set
Camp at Tarangire campsite. Dinner and overnight at the
campsite.
